A tricky approach. In its latest incarnation, Copse has been speeded up once again, and the exit is very fast indeed. However, the pit wall hides your view of the apex. Turn in close to where the highest part of the pit wall ends and you will soon see the vast expanse of Copse. The old circuit still exists to provide plenty of run off, so this is a very safe corner, a great place to test how brave you are without much risk of hitting anything.
This has to be considered as one complex. The most important part of the track as it leads onto the long Hangar straight, you need to find the line and balance that gets you on the power early.
Maggotts is a very fast left-right sweep. Try and stay balanced so you are in the middle of the road for the left turn through Becketts. This is a truly fast bend, and an awesome place to watch an F1 car. The left hand kerb should be apexed at the end and you should stay on the left after the kerb to be well placed for Chapel.
Chapel is slower than the previous two bends, but more important. It is not uncommon to be ballsy and brave through the first two corners and have to do too much slowing through Chapel. Apex late on the right hand kerb. If you need to lift between the right hand kerb and the next left kerb, you are entering two fast. Carry less speed in and think of the Hangar straight that follows.
A faster corner than looks on drawings. Again a late turn in, from almost out where the run off area begins, brings you in on a wide arc that means you should be able to thread the needle between the apex and exit kerbs as you accelerate down Vale.
So far Silverstone has been fast. Very fast. And then you will arrive here. It feels unbelievably slow and is a common place to lock the brakes. Try and be super-neat through the left to ensure you don't run wide on the exit and make the following right hander too tight for yourself. Where the track turns right, you are entering one of the longest corners in the country. Kiss the first kerb and then just let the car run wider and wider to the exit kerb, out of sight.
A hard brake is needed here for a chicane that is actually quite flowing. The kerbs are quite low here and can be hammered hard to get as straight a line as possible.
A great corner. Flat in many cars, the camber makes the track feel almost banked and seems to slingshot you through the bend. Apex late, and don't go all the way to the exit kerb, as you need to hit the brakes soon after for Priory.
Difficult to see the apex, but it is faster than you would think. Move to the right after Bridge and look through the apex to the next big braking point for the much tighter Brooklands.
This is a sharp left and is significantly slower than Priory. You will need to experiment with your line here as the vital factor is getting your car in the right place for the much more important Luffield.
A variety of lines work here depending on the car, and this will dictate your line through the preceding Brooklands. Some cars with good front end bite hug the inside kerb from entry to exit, whilst others choose to arc wide and come in to an apex two thirds of the way around the corner. Your choice is determined by finding the line that allows you to be squeezing on the power as early as possible, as the following straight is a long one. Also worth mentioning is Woodcote kink across the finish line. You won't notice it in the dry, but in the wet it can be an aquaplaning blackspot, and is the one place at Silverstone with precious little run-off.
