Castle Combe

Castle Combe is the perfect club racing venue. It is not dwarfed by corporate hospitality boxes and huge grandstands, but instead has high grass banks that provide a perfect place for a picnic and an afternoon of motorsport.

For the driver, Castle Combe presents a true challenge. Credit must go to Howard Strawford and the team at Combe for developing this venue whilst retaining the atmosphere and character. They also do a wonderful job promoting the venue, guaranteeing bigger crowds than any other circuit. It is not uncommon to have an attendance of 10,000 people for an obscure club racing event here, which is great for drivers wanting to publicise their sponsors. Why other circuits don't make the same effort is a mystery to me. I stopped at a services two miles from Thruxton on the eve of their big F3/GT meeting. No-one knew about the racing event up the road, but they had the Castle Combe calendar - a circuit more than an hour away…
