Anglesey
The new Anglesey Circuit opened in June 2007 and is almost all-new. Only about 50 metres of tarmac are shared between the old and new versions!
Make the trip to this track for a track day with a difference. Think of this as part of a great driving day out. The journey across Snowdonia to and from the circuit is all part of the experience.
The first time I went here I was expecting something different. I had heard it was ex-RAF and thought that it was going to be a bland airfield circuit. Far from it. The RAF connection is that it is an old rocket launching site, and it is perched on the side of a hill right by the Irish Sea. This gives a stunning backdrop, and is used by the likes of Evo and Fifth Gear as their favoured test venues.
The old track was one of my favourite racetracks anywhere, so I approached the new one fearful that 'upgrade' would mean 'characterless'. My verdict? It is a great challenge, but pick trackdays that use the Coastal circuit. The ambitiously titled GP circuit adds half a mile onto the Coastal track, but, like the GP loop at Donington, rather spoils the flow.
